Children Mining Cobalt Prevention Fund- Help End Modern Slavery
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the world’s largest known reservoirs of this metal are found, provides a substantial amount of the cobalt the world needs to meet its growing demand. Cobalt is a critical component in rechargeable car batteries and is indispensable for the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources. Despite the Commission's zero‑tolerance approach to child labor in trade agreements, it is estimated, according to reports by UN agencies, that in the southern Katanga province, more than 40 000 children are working in hazardous conditions in cobalt mines, with inadequate safety equipment and for very little money. It is estimated that 20% of the mines in the DRC are small-scale and use mostly child workers. These children, aged between 3 and 17, have to work in appalling and dangerous conditions, usually barefoot. According to the International Labour Organisation “child labour unifies all the activities which deprive children of their childhood, potential and dignity, along with harming their schooling and physical and mental development. We have created this fund to increase the effectiveness and protection of economic, social and cultural rights of local communities and traditional miners in relation to the exploitation of mineral resources, in the DRC. This will be achieved through a legal reform, the popularization of legal texts, awareness raising of local community leaders, of the judiciary and mine administration officials on their rights and obligations; in support of mining diggers rights and the monitoring of human rights related to the exploitation of natural resources. Donate Now.The people of Gaza are in dire need of help as they face relentless attacks and a severe lack of essential resources. With nearly 79,000 Palestinians injured, 35,091 killed, and 1.8 million displaced, the situation is critical. 1 in 25 people in Gaza are now injured or killed. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse due to the lack of fuel, clean water, and limited food supplies, leading to widespread dehydration, starvation, and disease. In collaboration with local organizations in Khan Younis, Deir Al Balah, Zawayda, and Rafah, we are providing daily hot meals to the people of Gaza, having distributed 5 thousand meals so far. Our efforts also include distributing hygiene kits, clean water through water tanks, and offering psychosocial support for children. However, the crisis demands much more. Racial Justice and Equality Fund
As a nonprofit whose core value is social justice and inclusion, we are committed to equality and justice – and these commitments have never been more important than they are today. Hatred, discrimination, and injustice are unacceptable and have no place in our societies. We have seen a rise in xenophobic actions around the world, as the economic and psychological impacts of COVID-19 spread. We cannot stay silent in the face of racial injustice whether it is within our communities or outside of them. No one should feel threatened or afraid because of the color of their skin, or who they are, or who they choose to be. We all have a responsibility to end discrimination and intolerance — and to seek justice, reconciliation, and healing. We stand with the family of George Floyd and the countless other families and communities who have suffered discrimination, hatred, or racial violence. We must stay vigilant and do our part to build toward justice and equality for all people. Our actions, both individually and collectively, can make a difference, especially now. Black people are being murdered and brutalized by police with near impunity. Act with us to end racism, demand racial justice, and defend our right to protest. We abhor racism. We do not tolerate it. Racism and inequality continue to create injustice for too many people in this world. Too many people see their lives and their opportunity threatened by the color of their skin. Your donation will fuel our legal battles and urgent advocacy efforts. INSPIRE YOURSELF. INSPIRE OTHERS. DONATE. SHARE. REPEAT. Contribute and get inspired by the generosity.
